![]() ![]() It is easy to confuse the case number (alphanumeric) with the edition number (numbers only) (in a series) and the limited edition numbers, and more confusingly, there is no easily apparent protocol when and which of these identifying numbers are engraved on the case back of a particular watch. X/yy notation as well, in addition to the alpha-number. Sometimes, but not always, if the piece is from a very limited edition, it will also have a (alpha)nnnnn (letter a-e plus 4 to 5 digits) nnnn (above) AND (alpha)nnnnn (letter a-e plus 4 to 5 digits) but no No. nnnn (usually one to four digits long, numbers only) The back of Audemars Piguet cases have, since the early 1970's, been numbered one of three ways.
